Women with great skin often have one trait in common--they’re vigilant about makeup removal
. At night, they would never fall asleep without properly removing makeup and other residue from their skin. A night time
cleansing routine is very important because that’s when the skin repairs itself. Skin cell regeneration happens eight times faster at night and caked-on makeup can slow this down. If your face isn’t completely clean, skin serums and other night time formulas can have difficulty working properly.
Here are some tips to make sure your skin is makeup free at bedtime:
1. Skip the soap.
Soap bars can often be too harsh for your skin. Instead of properly cleansing your skin, they end up striping it of moisture. Choose a good cleanser to wash your face every evening. Then use a toner on your skin to control oils. Finally, follow with a moisturizer. 2. Don’t forget your eye makeup
. If you use waterproof mascara, you’ll need an oil-based eye makeup remover. 3. Change your pillowcases.
Your pillowcases can be contaminated with makeup
that can then make its way back to your skin. Make sure you wash your pillowcases at least every other week. 4. Skip the makeup wipes.
Makeup wipes are a shortcut and while using them once in a while may be OK, they should never be a substitute for your nightly cleansing routine. Sara Novak is a Natural Health Care Expert for Zax Health. Follow her on Twitter at @sarafnovak.
