Your skin is a complex system of nerves and glands and, in fact, it’s the largest organ in the body. Cell layers protect you from infection and enable your body to produce vitamin D from the sun. Your skin also plays an important role in body detoxification through the elimination of dead skin cells. Your lymphatic system, which is stimulated while dry brushing, is responsible for the elimination of cellular waste products. Eliminating dead skin cells also improves the overall appearance of your skin, making it look glowing and vibrant. Dry brushing can also help to soften hard fat deposits of cellulite in the legs and distribute fat more evenly in the body.

Here are some tips to get started dry brushing:

1. Find a dry brush at any health foods store. Make sure you choose a dry brush with natural bristles. 2. Dry brush everyday (before you get in the shower is ideal because you’re nude and dead skin can just fall in the bathtub). 3. Start low at your ankles, working in short strokes toward your heart. Brush your legs, stomach, and arms. Pay special attention to the lymph nodes underneath your armpits. This is an important area for detoxification of the entire body. 4. Brush to where it’s comfortable. You don’t want your skin to be raw or red. Take some time to give dry brushing a try. Not only is it great for your skin, it can also be a very relaxing activity.
